Teacher Spotlight: Anne McHargue (Spinner)

Yoga has been the balance in my life since I graduated college at The University of Colorado (a long time ago). At first it was something new and fun. I grew up as a gymnast and a diver so it came natural to me. Something to experiment with and to show my strength. And at other times it has been my way back to myself after heartbreak and pain. And most of the time it is there to keep me on an even keel.

I found yoga when I was in college, in a art class called Tibetan Tonkas, and our teacher had us doing savasana during class between the desks. It was my first peek at meditation. After that introduction, I started to seek out whatever yoga classes I could find. I have dabbled in just about everything. While I was living in Minnesota after college I practiced a ton of Bikrim yoga while I trained for Half Marathons and Triathalons. I was hooked! After moving to California I decided that I wanted to teach, and that’s when I fell in love with Vinyasa Yoga. I got my first 500 hours with Mukti School of Yoga, and started teaching right away in 2009. And more recently have completed an advanced training with Ana Forrest. I have been teaching full time since I started, up to 5 classes a day 5 days a week and sometimes more.

Teaching yoga is almost like doing yoga for me. It keeps me present in the moment. I like to follow the breath cues I give to my students, and when we sit still I make sure I am doing the meditation practice with everyone. I still love hopping into class with my students and doing the practice alongside of them. I am still learning everyday, and consider myself a lifetime student of the practice.

When I am not “yogaing” you may find me out surfing with my neighbors or walking my dog Halley on the strand. My husband, Mike, and I love skiing so you might catch us escaping to Mammoth any free chance we get!
When I think about yoga at the end of the day, it’s my life. My students are my people, they are my friends. I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without their continued support. So I thank you for helping me live and do my dream job!
